Why the long name for this event?

Each year in the May-June period the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education (OAME) organizes an
Ontario Mathematics Olympics (OMO) for Grades 7 and 8 students. The teams for this event come from all over the province of Ontario.

The mathematics association for south-eastern Ontario, the area in which Kingston and Queen's University are located, is called the
Quinte-St Lawrence Mathematics Association (QSLMA)

The MSTE is the Mathematics, Science, Technology Education Group, a research and development team at the Faculty of Education, Queen's University,
dedicated to improving teaching and learning in the fields of mathematics, science, and technology in schools and in teacher education.
This event is financially supported by the Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (MSTE) Group.

These two groups host the
MSTE-QSLMA 7&8 matholymPIcs as a preliminary round of the provincial OMO.
